The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has secured approval for a major road construction initiative spanning 58 kilometers—marking a significant milestone in her first year in office.

Madam Gyan expressed concern over the district’s longstanding lack of quality road infrastructure, despite its vital contribution to Ghana’s cocoa sector.

But after just eight months in Parliament, she announced the breakthrough with visible excitement, noting that the decades-long absence of tarred roads in the area would soon be addressed.

“I’m 40 years old now and since I was born, I have never seen any tarred road in the whole of Amenfi Central. So, it’s really sad when you see a district with almost all the cocoa.

“Now, the good news is that just about two weeks ago in August, we just had approval from the main road from the Asankragua to Wassa Akoramansi where I was born to the Sefwi Bekwai which is 58 kilometres. That, I must say, the road minister and the president have done me well,” she said on Sunday, September 7, 2025, on Woezor TV.

She continued: “They just approved it and I’m so happy and so excited for the first time being a Member of Parliament for just eight months I’ve been able to fight for this and they’ve just approved it for me.

“And also when it comes to Kwaaman to Anyinabrim, we have got another 17 kilometers, we’ve got another 19 kilometers and now when it comes to the main road. All the three are feeder roads.

“Now, we’ve got the highway from the Bodea to Asankragua, so the whole of Western Region, these are the four roads they’ve also added to the roads they have approved in the Western Region,” the MP explained.

Speaking in the monitored interview, Madam Gyan expressed optimism about the timely completion of the projects, which she believes will transform the district’s road network and boost local productivity.

“I’m very happy so it looks good, I’m sure from now to the next three years everyone will see the tarred road for the first time in Amenfi Central and we’ve really worked hard.

“I know contractors are already on site from the Bodea to Asankragua project and the rest are even coming, and that’s why I’m really happy and excited about it,” the MP observed.
