President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence that Ghana is on the verge of making history, stating that in the near future, a woman will rise to become president of the Republic.

President Mahama restated Ghana’s strong commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women in all areas of national life.

Speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, China, President Mahama said Ghana continues to make progress in creating equal opportunities for both men and women.

He explained that his government has taken clear steps to include gender issues in national policies and development plans.

“My country, Ghana, remains steadfast in its pursuit of gender equality and the empowerment of women,” he said.

“Under my leadership and in my capacity as the African Union Champion for Gender and Women’s Empowerment, the Government of Ghana has taken decisive steps to mainstream gender across its national development policies.”

President Mahama noted that Ghana has made history by electing its first female vice president and appointing women to key leadership positions in government, the judiciary, the security services, and other national institutions.

“These are not symbolic gestures; they are a deliberate affirmation that women deserve a seat at the highest levels of decision-making,” he added.

“And I am confident that, in the very near future, our women will break the glass ceiling and that a woman will be president of the Republic of Ghana.”

President Mahama emphasized that these efforts reflect Ghana’s belief in equality and fairness, adding that empowering women helps strengthen the nation and secure its future.
