President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana and China are set to conclude a zero-tariff agreement by the end of this month October 2025.

China has indicated that the expansion of its zero-tariff policy to cover all 53 African countries, including Ghana, aims to strengthen diplomatic ties, boost Africa’s economy, and give the continent a benchmark to negotiate better trade terms with other partners.

Speaking at a Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing, President Mahama announced that both nations have reached an agreement toward achieving this goal.

To him, the bilateral agreement would significantly boost Ghana’s exports and industrial growth.

“I’m happy to inform you that we reached an agreement in principle, and we have targeted the end of October to be able to sign off on the zero-tariff principle. I wish to commend the government of China for this act of solidarity,” he announced.

President John Dramani Mahama has also announced plans to abolish the minimum capital requirements for foreign investors in Ghana, as part of efforts to create a more open and attractive investment environment.

He revealed that the government will introduce a new pathway to citizenship for long-term investors who contribute significantly to the nation’s development.
