Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has set his sights on an impressive run in the upcoming edition of the FIFA World Cup, scheduled for June to July 2026.
According to the gaffer, progressing beyond the group stage of the global football tournament is a key objective.
Ghana’s participation in the tournament to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico will mark the nation’s fifth appearance at the showpiece event.
On previous occasions, the team reached the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals in 2006 and 2010 respectively, but fell short of qualifying from the group stage in both 2014 and 2022.
Speaking to 3Sports, the former Black Stars midfielder remains determined to improve the team’s performance compared to the 2022 edition held in Qatar.
“I want to overcome the group stage, but then, from there, it’s difficult to predict,” said Otto Addo while reflecting on his disappointing campaign as coach in Qatar.
He added, “It’s very, very important that we believe in ourselves, we keep the flexibility which we have already, and the players understand what we want to do. This style of play for the long term will give us a lot of chances to go far in that World Cup.”
