Presidential staffer Beatrice Annan (ESQ) has stated that President Mahama is committed to combating illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, through strategic efforts.

In an interview on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, October 27, 2025, she outlined several measures introduced by the government to tackle and ultimately end galamsey.

These measures include the deployment of river guards, the declaration of security zones, and the establishment of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

Madam Annan emphasised that President Mahama has restricted all government appointees from engaging in mining activities, whether legal or illegal.

“There is no government appointee who is involved in galamsey or any form of mining,” Madam Beatrice said.

She further argued that a state of emergency would not resolve the galamsey issue, citing the NPP’s administration, which declared such a state from 2017 to 2018.

According to her, this was also the year in which gold exports surged, as reported by the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

Madam Annan alleged that the NPP did not make any substantial efforts to end galamsey after the 2020 elections, fearing a loss of power if they continued to combat the issue.

“No effort was made by the NPP to stop galamsey in 2023 to January 6, 2025, until they handed over power to the National Democratic Congress,” she added.

In conclusion, Madam Annan urged all Ghanaians to support government efforts in fighting against illegal mining activities.
