The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to take over investigations into an attack on the Director of Operations of the National Democratic Movement for Security (NAIMOS), James Torgbey, and his team at Hwidiem.

IGP’s directive follows a violent incident on November 1, 2025, while Mr. Torgbey and his team were on official duty.

According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that unknown assailants fired gunshots at the team, resulting in injuries to Mr. Torgbey and two other NAIMOS officers.

Police officers have since arrested several suspects and retrieved exhibits, including a Wesson pistol, ammunition, two pistol magazines, an unregistered Range Rover, and several mobile phones.

In a statement, the Police strongly condemned the attack and cautioned against any interference with law enforcement operations.

“A special operation has been launched to identify and arrest the perpetrators to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement was signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director-General of Public Affairs.

While the Service noted that calm has been restored in the catchment area, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, who is alleged to have incited the mob and obstructed the NAIMOS team, has been invited to assist ongoing investigations into the incident.
