The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has advised his colleague, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, to ensure he is well abreast with parliamentary rules and proceedings to avoid ridiculing his integrity.

He stated that A-Plus, in his capacity as the MP for Gomoa Central, must take his time to understand the procedures of the House properly before making public comments on matters of law.

Mr. Nyarko’s advice is in connection with A-Plus’ petition seeking the removal of Abena Osei-Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). He argued that Mrs. Osei-Asare’s presence on the committee represents a conflict of interest, as the current cases before the committee occurred during her tenure as Deputy Minister of Finance.

The Akim Swedru MP, in a Facebook post, took a swipe at A-Plus’ petition to the Speaker of Parliament, describing it as “dead on arrival” and potentially embarrassing to him.

“My colleague A Plus should take his time to learn the parliamentary rules and procedures properly. He should know and understand that the Speaker has no powers to remove any Member of Parliament from any committee, not even the Leader of Government Business in the House has such powers.”

Mr. Osei Nyarko lamented, “His petition to the Speaker to remove Hon. Abena Osei-Asare is dead on arrival,” and hoped A-Plus would immediately withdraw the petition submitted on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, “to avoid any embarrassment to himself.”

He counselled A-Plus that it is only the leadership of the caucuses that can alter the membership of any committee through the Committee of Selection.

He challenged his colleague to invoke the appropriate sections of the Standing Orders if he believed the PAC Chairwoman had acted in an unparliamentary manner rather than submitting what he described as a “dead” petition.

“If he thinks the Hon. Member has done anything unparliamentary he should invoke the appropriate sections of Standing Order against her, but to call the Speaker to remove her as the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee is nothing but political bravado,” said the Akim Swedru MP.
