Celestine Donkor ‘shocked’ as fellow gospel musician demands 70% upfront payment to perform

Gospel singer, Celestine Donkor has shared a shocking experience she had with a fellow gospel musician who demanded payment before agreeing to perform at her event, despite the close relationship she thought they shared.

Speaking in an interview, Celestine revealed that she was treated like a complete stranger when she reached out to the artiste for support.

“I was treated like a total stranger. I was charged and I was given conditions of payment. I had to pay 70% upfront, and that was after the artiste had already permitted me to use their picture on a flyer. The flyers were already out before I was referred to the manager,” she recounted.

The gospel minister further narrated that the situation became very tense on the day of the event.

“The wahala at the event that time wasn’t a joke. I was begging this person, literally on my knees  promising to honor my part of the agreement after the show. It was a big No. They said, ‘No 70% down payment, no show,’” she said.

According to Celestine, despite all efforts, the artiste failed to show up even though promotional materials had already been printed and shared.

“So the flyers were out, and the person didn’t show up,” she added sadly.

Expressing her disappointment, Celestine explained that she had always considered the artiste a friend.

“This is somebody we hang out with, we talk so I thought we had a good relationship. When I needed the person for my event and they turned me down, I was really disappointed,” she said.

However, Celestine ended on a gracious note, stating that she understands the artiste’s decision since management policies might have been at play.

“It’s cool. The person works with a management team, and I’m friends with the artiste, not the manager, so it’s fine,” she concluded.
