The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has ruled out the possibility of the government funding Ghanaian football fans to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup in support of the Black Stars.
According to him, the government requires resources to develop sporting infrastructure across the country.
Therefore, he noted that sponsoring fans may not be an ideal plan, something he disclosed would not be a recommendation from him as the sector minister.
“So far, the government hasn’t given any indication of ferrying fans to the 2026 World Cup. I don’t think it’s something I’d recommend. We’re in a period of austerity, where we’re in dire need of funds to build sports infrastructure,” he said in a recent interview with Peace FM.
He, however, indicated that the government will assist prospective supporters with documentation for the mundial.
“I believe every Ghanaian who wishes to go should explore their own resources; we can help with travel documents.”
The minister added, “Alternatively, we can mobilize support from corporate entities, both private and public.”
