Devote full commitment to your core mandates and stop chasing awards – Mahama tells appointees

The third National Vice chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Osman Massawudu, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government recruited more people into the country’s security agencies than any other administration under the Fourth Republic.

Speaking on Y’aduma Nie midmorning show on Angel 102.9 FM on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Alhaji Masawudu said, even during the NPP time in government, when Ghana was under International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) conditionalities, recruitment into the security sector continued without any major incidents.

“In the history of Ghana, the NPP recruited security agencies more than any other government in the Fourth Republic. Even in our time when we had IMF, we were given conditionalities but with the IMF we still recruited people, but no disaster happened,” he said.

He went on to criticize the current government, describing it as a “ridiculous and unfavored government,” following the tragic incident that led to the loss of lives at the El-Wak sports stadium on Wednesday, November 12, following a stampede that claimed six lives and left many others injured.

The incident occurred when a large crowd of applicants forced their way through the stadium gates ahead of the scheduled screening time.

“During the time of the NPP, no disaster as such happened than this ridiculous government, this unfavored government, this government of blood shedding that happened yesterday. We lost our sisters and daughters painfully just because of NDC lies of giving jobs to them,” he lamented.
