Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson has announced the rollout of Accra to Kumasi Expressway as part of the government’s $10 billion Big Push Infrastructure Program aimed at advancing modern infrastructure development.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement in Parliament, he said the Big push program is aimed at connecting Ghana end-to-end, making infrastructure the backbone of industrialization.

According to him, the Big Push program includes the 198.7 kilometres Accra to Kumasi Expressway, which will link the south to the north and reduce travel distance.

“The Big Push includes the Accra to Kumasi Expressway project, stretching 198.7 kilometres reducing 40% of transportation cost.

“The road will link the capital to the Ashanti Region through the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions, connecting the south to the north expecting to reduce the current travel distance by 50 kilometres, from 250km to 198.7km,” he stated on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

He revealed that the project will feature major interchanges and full-service areas equipped with emergency medical facilities, fuel stations, parking lots, and electric vehicle charging stations, all operating 24 hours in line with the 24-hour economy.

“The interchange will be located at Greater Accra, Aduahensu–Asamankese, Akim Oda, Ofuasi, Lake Bosomtwe, and Kumasi, as well as three bridges over the Brim and Pra rivers,” he disclosed.

He further added that the Adawso to Ekye Bridge project and its related road networks will open up it enclaves, including the Afram Plains, for large-scale commercial and agricultural transformation.

“This is urgently referred to unlock the agriculture and economic potential of the Afram enclaves,” he reiterated.
