Ellen Ama Daaku, an aide to Bawumia, has slammed the government’s decision to offer military recruitment slots to families of the El-Wak tragedy victims, calling it “very insensitive” given the timing.
Speaking on Angel TV morning show with Saddick Adams as host, Ama Daaku calls the government’s offer “very insensitive” because it was made just days after the El-Wak tragedy, in which six young women lost their lives.
She believes the government should prioritize providing support, compensation, and ensuring such tragedies never happen again, rather than offering military recruitment slots, which may be perceived as exploiting the victims’ deaths for political gain.
Ama Daaku emphasized that the government’s response should focus on addressing the immediate needs of the affected families, providing justice, and implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
She questioned the timing and motivation behind the offer, suggesting that it appears to be a knee-jerk reaction rather than a genuine effort to support the victims’ families.
“The government’s offer of military recruitment slots to families of the El-Wak tragedy victims is very insensitive, given the timing,” the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) lecturer added.
