President John Dramani Mahama has vowed that all individuals involved in the recent attack on members of the National Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) will face the full rigor of the law.

He emphasized that his government is committed to restoring state authority and curbing impunity in affected communities.

Speaking during a call by the Christian Council at the Presidency, President Mahama acknowledged the difficulties involved in combating illegal mining.

He cited the recent incident in Ahafo Region where members of the anti-illegal mining task force were brutally attacked by nearly 700 community members armed with sticks and stones.

The President said authorities are still processing arrests and ensuring those involved face the full rigor of the law to reinforce state authority on security and crime.

He further highlighted challenges in prosecuting illegal mining cases, noting that over 1,700 people have been arrested, but the courts face difficulties in processing them.

To address this, he explained that the Cabinet recently approved the Public Tribunals Bill, which will allow illegal mining cases to be adjudicated more quickly.
