Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has been officially sworn in as Ghana’s new Chief Justice (CJ).
The swearing-in ceremony took place today, Monday, November 17, 2025, at Jubilee House.
President John Dramani Mahama administered the oath of office, officially confirming his status as the new CJ. His appointment follows parliamentary approval last week.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie assumes the role after the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo by President Mahama.
The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including the Vice President, members of the Council of State, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, parliamentary leadership, all Supreme Court Justices, and the new Chief Justice’s immediate family.
President Mahama commended Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s extensive experience and dedication to the rule of law, charging him to restore integrity within Ghana’s judiciary.
He also urged him to ensure that justice is not influenced by power, money, or personal connections.
In his acceptance speech, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie underlined his vision for the Judiciary and highlights his commitment to comprehensive institutional reforms.
