Hon. Kofi Arkoe Nokoe, Member of Parliament for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira, and Hon. Herbert Kuah Dickson, the Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema East, have jointly honoured 28 outstanding teachers under the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Teachers Award during a colourful ceremony held at Axim on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

The maiden edition of the awards ceremony, staged at the Axim Victoria Park, attracted traditional leaders, clergy, education officials, retired teachers, students and assembly members who gathered to celebrate excellence and dedication within the teaching profession. The initiative marked a significant milestone in the constituency’s efforts to motivate educators and strengthen the educational sector.

The Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Teachers Award was fully financed by the MP in partnership with the MCE to recognise both active and retired teachers who continue to shape the future of the municipality. As part of the support package, teachers working in hard-to-reach communities received motorbikes to ease their daily commute, while other distinguished educators were presented with double-decker fridges, tabletop fridges and deep freezers to support their household needs.

Six retired teachers were also honoured with citations and a cash prize of Two Thousand Ghana Cedis each in recognition of their decades of service to the constituency. The organisers emphasised that their contributions laid the foundation for the progress the area enjoys today.

The top honours of the event went to exceptional teachers whose commitment and performance distinguished them among their peers. Mr. Stephen Mensah of Kwame Nkrumah Senior High School was adjudged the overall best teacher and awarded Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis in cash in addition to other items. Mr. Francis Anyan Mensah took the first runner-up position with a prize of Seven Thousand Five Hundred Ghana Cedis, while Ms. Monica Turkson placed second runner-up and received Five Thousand Ghana Cedis.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Kofi Arkoe Nokoe explained that the award scheme was instituted to motivate teachers and acknowledge their crucial role in shaping the constituency’s human resource base. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the educational sector and noted that education remains the cornerstone of development. He further commended the strong collaboration between his office and the MCE, describing their teamwork as essential to advancing development in Evalue Ajomoro Gwira.

The Omanhene of the Lower Axim Traditional Area, HRM Awulae Attibrukusu III, hailed the MP and MCE for their dedication to improving education in the municipality. He urged teachers to uphold professionalism and integrity as they undertake their responsibilities and assured them of the traditional authority’s ongoing support.

He pledged that his office would continue to lobby for resources and interventions that uplift both teaching and learning conditions.
