Samba O’Neil’s controversial penalty earns Kotoko win over Young Apostles

A resilient Kumasi Asante Kotoko laboured to secure an all-important win in their Ghana Premier League (GPL) outstanding fixture against Young Apostles.

The Porcupine Warriors recorded a 2-1 victory at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

In a fiercely contested first half, both sides failed to make the most of the goal-scoring opportunities they created.

The newly promoted Premier League side proved stubborn against the Porcupines in the early stages of the second half, but that resistance did not last long.

Within ten minutes of the restart, Hubert Gyau gave Asante Kotoko the lead in the 50th minute. However, their celebration lasted only two minutes.

Teenage striker Richmond Opoku responded quickly with a header in the 52nd minute to level the score for Young Apostles.

Kotoko pressed for the winning goal, and their efforts finally paid off in stoppage time when they were awarded a controversial penalty. Captain Samba O’Neil stepped forward and converted to seal a 2-1 victory.
