A fire officer had his ear burnt while attempting to douse a blaze at the Charkieh Plastics Factory near Weija Junction in the Greater Accra Region, Saturday, November 22, 2025.

According to Accra Regional Fire Officer, ACFO II Rashid Kwame Nisawu, the unnamed firefighter sustained a burn injury to the ear during the operation.

“Although the blaze was intense, the firefighters had succeeded in containing it to prevent further spread,” he disclosed.

He said due to the intensity of the blaze, they deployed eight fire tenders and additional equipment from both the Greater Accra and Central Regions.

“Fire crews from Weija, Kasoa, Anyaa, Circle, the Industrial Area, National Headquarters, Madina, and Dansoman were all mobilized to support the operation.

“The Accra Metropolitan Assembly and Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly also provided water to aid the firefighting effort,” he stated.

Mr. Kwame Nisawu further said that the fire involved plastics, making it more dangerous and difficult to manage.
