We shall remain resolute despite gov’t’ ‘persecution’ – Afenyo-Markin

The Minority Leader, Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has described the ruling of the Tamale High Court on the Kpandai Parliamentary results of the 2024 elections as electoral anarchy.

Speaking to the media in Parliament House, the Efutu Member of Parliament (MP) added that such a ruling brings disorder that does not help democracy or the people of the country.

The Tamale High Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange, annulled the 2024 parliamentary election results for the Kpandai Constituency and ordered a fresh poll within 30 days, following a successful legal challenge.

The petition was filed by National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who claimed that the December 7, 2024, election was tainted by serious irregularities.

However, the Minority Caucus in Parliament has rejected the court’s ruling and has since filed a notice of appeal and a motion for a stay of execution.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the Minority Leader entreated the presiding judge to have a better knowledge of his work.

“It looks as if one has to cause a havoc in your constituency, file motion and complaint and there will be a rerun by Court order, where are we heading to as democratic country,” he questioned.

According to the Leader, the action of Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange undermines Ghana’s constitution, which needs to be condemned.

He expressed strong conviction that such actions are “dangerous” and will not help the people of Kpandai.

Afenyo-Markin urged calm among the people of Kpandai, assuring them that the elected MP, Mathew Nyandam, will continue to take part in all parliamentary proceedings.
