Parliament has approved the 2026 Budget Estimates for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
Alongside the budget approval, a groundbreaking Labour Mobility Agreement with Qatar was ratified.
According to a Facebook post by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Thursday, December 4, 2025, the approved budget for the Ministry is set to bring about several reforms.
These include enhanced conditions of service for foreign service officers, a strategic shift from renting to owning diplomatic properties worldwide, ongoing modernization of passport administration to make it more affordable, and a focused strategy to boost Ghana’s international image with efficiency and integrity.
The Labour Mobility Agreement with Qatar, ratified under Article 75 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, is poised to benefit prospective Ghanaian workers heading to Qatar.
Under this agreement, Ghanaians seeking employment in Qatar are entitled to better salaries, accommodation, medical allowances, insurance coverage, and binding contracts, ensuring improved working conditions and protections.
The Ministry is expected to leverage these developments to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic footprint globally and safeguard the interests of Ghanaian workers abroad, particularly in Qatar.
