The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force has taken a decisive action in protecting cocoa farms in Adanse Anomabo, describing the operation as timely, necessary, and a significant step in safeguarding the nation’s agricultural resources.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources confirmed that a NAIMOS intelligence-led operation on Monday December, 8, uncovered severe destruction of cocoa farms at the Kakra illegal mining site in the Bosome Freho District.

“The Taskforce, deployed after petitions from the cocoa farmers’ association, found extensive damage to plantations at the Kakra site. Though the galamseyers fled the illegal mining site upon approach of the Taskforce, their tools, equipments and other instruments left at the site were destroyed by the troops,” the statement noted.

The task force dismantled all heavy machinery at the site and took custody of the weapons recovered, cleared and destroyed the makeshift shelters and other materials that had been used to support the illegal mining activities.

“A total of 6 excavators seen at the illegal mining sites were immobilized to prevent their usage due to lack of Lowbed services. One pump action gun and 7 cartridges, discovered at the site were also seized.

“Additionally, several makeshift structures which served as hideouts for the galamseyers were completely demolished and set ablaze. Also, pipe hoses at the site were burnt completely,” the statement added.
