Awerco Construction Limited, the contractor working on the 120-bed Weija Pediatric Hospital in the Greater Accra Region, says it is unaware of the Health Ministry’s financial challenges with the World Bank.

It stated that all medical equipment required under the $14 million project as been fully supplied and installed, but was quick to add that the outstanding matter relates to payment due from the Ministry of Health in accordance with the contract terms.

A statement issued and signed by Joseph Adams, Managing Director of the company, indicated that its relationship is with the Ministry of Health and not with the World Bank, while disputing claims by the media that the project is 65% complete.

“For the avoidance of doubt and to place the facts on record, Awerco Construction Ltd wishes to state that its contractual relationship in respect of the Weija Paediatric Hospital Project is solely with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Ghana, and not with the World Bank and at no time has our client (Ministry of Health), communicated to us any challenges, termination, or cancellation affecting the contract under execution, the statement read in part.

According to the Managing Director, the company remains fully committed to working closely with the Ministry of Health and all relevant stakeholders to complete the remaining processes leading to the formal takeover and operationalisation of the Weija Paediatric Hospital in the interest of the people of Ghana.
