The Deputy General Secretary of the United Party (UP), Daniel Nana Yaw Sarpong, has called for the enforcement of peace and stability in the Bawku enclave amid the long-standing chieftaincy conflict.

He stated that if government efforts to restore peace fail, then the country has no option but to resort to enforcement.

Mr. Sarpong made the proposal while contributing to the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday, December 18, 2025, following the government’s endorsement of the Bawku Mediation Report submitted by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He emphasized, stating vehemently that if peacekeeping becomes ineffective, then peace enforcement should be considered.

“On the other hand, if peacekeeping isn’t working, we should implement what is called peace enforcement; we ought to be able to enforce peace,” he said.

According to him, for peace to prevail in Bawku, the people must understand the consequences of conflict on the nation.

“First of all, conflict isn’t a good thing,it not only kills people but also destroys property, stalls development, and harms future generations. If we allow peace to reign, it would benefit us. However, for peace to prevail, it depends on the people,” he highlighted.

He believes that if not for the conflict, the funds the people of Bawku could have generated would have exceeded the 1 billion revitalization fund allocation made by the government.

“The people of Bawku should understand that if it were not for the conflict, there would be more jobs and resources exceeding the 1 billion revitalization fund. Therefore, with the 1 billion they have received, they should come together and settle this matter,” he said.

Nana Yaw further used the platform to praise Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for agreeing to mediate and for executing the process well, adhering to all the principles of conflict management and resolution.

“By considering the principles of conflict management and mediation used by people all over the world, those principles were effectively applied and appreciated. Now it is up to the community members to allow peace to prevail,” he pointed out.
