The National Election Security Taskforce has met with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Election Committee ahead of the party’s Presidential elections scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The engagement between the two parties was aimed at receiving official notification of the election and obtaining key details, including the timetable, locations and scope of activities, to enable adequate security planning.

Speaking at the meeting, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, noted that the taskforce considers such engagements essential to ensuring effective coordination and preparedness for internal party elections.

He assured the Committee that the Service together with sister security agencies would work with the Electoral Commission and the NPP to put in place “appropriate measures to guarantee a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process.”

The IGP further reiterated the commitment of the National Election Security Taskforce to work closely with all stakeholders to maintain law, order and public safety before, during and after the elections.
