Police arrest 33 suspects, impounds motorbikes in anti-crime swoop

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested 33 suspects and impounded 45 motorbikes following a series of intelligence-led anti-crime operations conducted across parts of the Central East Region.

The operations, carried out in the early hours of December 16 and 17, 2025, targeted crime-prone areas including Kasoa Old Market, Awutu Breku, Gomoa Buduata, Senya Breku and surrounding communities.

In a statement signed by DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs, Central East Region, the swoops form part of intensified police efforts to clamp down on criminal activities before, during and after the festive season.

According to the Police, some of the suspects were found in possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and quantities of tramadol. One locally manufactured firearm was also retrieved during the operations.

All 45 motorbikes impounded are currently undergoing verification and documentation checks, while the arrested suspects are being screened as part of ongoing investigations.

Police say individuals found culpable will be put before court to face justice, the statement cautioned.

The statement further has urged the general public to observe key security and safety precautions during the festive period. These include avoiding carrying large sums of money, moving in the company of others especially at odd hours, complying with the use of crash helmets by riders, avoiding drunk driving and overspeeding, and refraining from moving alone in secluded areas.

The Command also expressed appreciation to stakeholders and members of the public for their cooperation in maintaining law and order throughout the year, and commended police officers in the region for their unwavering commitment to effective policing.

The Central East Regional Police Command has assured the public of its preparedness to ensure a crime-free festive season, warning that persons who engage in criminal activities will be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.
