The Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL) has announced a scheduled shutdown of the Weija Water Treatment Plant today, Friday, December 19, 2025, to allow for critical maintenance works. The exercise, which began at 6:00 a.m., is expected to last until 6:00 p.m.

According to GWCL, the temporary shutdown is part of its commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable water supply, particularly during the Christmas festivities.

Water production and distribution will resume immediately after the completion of the works, the GWCL noted.

The affected areas include Accra Central, Dansoman, Mallam, Weija, Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Abeka La Paz, Tesano, Kokomlemle, Alajo, Nima, Maamobi, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe, and adjoining communities.

Management has assured customers that adequate resources and logistics have been mobilized to ensure the exercise is completed within the stipulated timeframe.

In a statement, the GWCL advised customers to store sufficient water to minimize inconvenience.

“This maintenance exercise is crucial for sustaining the integrity of our water infrastructure and improving service delivery. We have deployed all necessary resources and will work diligently to complete the task on schedule,” said Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, Managing Director of GWCL.
