Communications Director for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has warned that the government’s Nkoko nkete nkete initiative could fail if measures are not taken to end the increasing rate of frozen chicken importation.

According to the outspoken political commentator, President John Dramani Mahama’s initiative is brilliant but faces a key challenge to its sustainability.

Mr. Owusu highlighted that this challenge is the continual interest of political leaders in importing what he described as “dead chicken,” also known as frozen chicken.

“Nkoko nkete nkete is a brilliant idea but that policy will fail if you [President Mahama] allow politicians and party financiers to import dead chickens,” he said categorically.

Solomon Owusu made this suggestion on Saturday, December 20, 2025, during a panel discussion on Accra-based TV3’s Key Point.

He added that stopping politicians and financiers from the practice of importing frozen chicken would ensure the Nkoko nkete nkete  project succeeds.
