National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has commenced a series of raids on illegal mining sites at Akyem Oda in the Birim Central Municipality.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources on Monday, December 29, 2025, the operation resulted in the arrest of five (5) Chinese nationals who were actively engaged in illegal mining and washing activities along the Birim River at about 1:40 p.m., when a team of officers carried out the exercise.
The task force seized equipment and vehicles used in the illegal mining operation and dismantled the structures at the site.
“Two excavators found at the site were immobilized. One Toyota Hilux pickup and another Toyota Land Cruiser used by the arrested Chinese illegal miners were seized by the task force.
Several makeshift structures erected at the sites were destroyed, along with some water pumping machines and other mining equipment,” the statement revealed.
NAIMOS further reaffirmed its dedication to ongoing operations along major water bodies during the festive season to curb subsequent pollution.
