Haruna Iddrisu tops Global InfoAnalytics poll as leading candidate for NDC leadership
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The most recent Global InfoAnalytics survey reveals that the race to succeed President John Dramani Mahama in 2029 has intensified, with no candidate securing a clear advantage.

As per the survey, the competition has transformed into a three-way battle after the Vice President siphoned off support from other candidates.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu retains the lead with 26 per cent backing, although this marks a decrease from the 29 per cent he achieved in October 2025.

Finance Minister Dr Ato Forson has ascended to second position, garnering 23 per cent, an increase from the 18 per cent noted in the earlier poll.

He is closely trailed by NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who now stands at 22 per cent, down from 24 per cent in the previous survey.

The poll also places Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang in fourth place, with 11 per cent support. Julius Debrah follows with 7 per cent, while Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa collects 6 per cent. Professors Joshua Alabi and Eric Opoku each secure 2 per cent.

Notably, in a hypothetical situation where Professor Opoku-Agyemang, Haruna Iddrisu, Julius Debrah, and Okudzeto Ablakwa withdraw their candidacies, Dr Ato Forson emerges as the dominant contender.

In that scenario, he commands 48 per cent support, leading Asiedu Nketia, who registers 41 per cent. Joshua Alabi and Eric Opoku lag with 6 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively.

These findings underscore a fiercely contested succession race within the governing party as the focus gradually shifts to future leadership beyond President Mahama.
