Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) Ghana has announced a temporary suspension of airtime and data sales for four hours on January 2, 2026.
This measure is part of the preparations to implement newly approved Value Added Tax (VAT) tariffs on telecommunications services.
The brief shutdown is expected to affect purchases made through mobile money, electronic recharge platforms, and other sales channels during the scheduled adjustment period.
In a notice to customers, the telecom giant explained that the interruption is necessary to update its billing and charging systems to reflect the revised VAT rates.
MTN assured subscribers that voice calls, SMS, and existing data bundles will remain unaffected.
MTN has advised customers to plan ahead by purchasing airtime or data before the maintenance window and apologised for any inconvenience the temporary disruption may cause.
