The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a key suspect in connection with the GH¢7.5 million daylight robbery that took place at a jewellery shop in Adabraka in November 2024.

In a press briefing regarding successful intelligence-led operations conducted between November and December 2025, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor, announced the arrest of Salim Mohammed, also known as Fawata.

According to COP Donkor, this arrest represents a major breakthrough in the investigation into the high-profile robbery, which involved cash proceeds from a gold transaction that were being transported to a bank.

“A significant breakthrough has been made in that case. The police have arrested a suspect in connection with a daylight robbery attack on a jewellery shop, adding that the proceeds from a gold transaction were being conveyed to the bank and were stolen from the owners,” she noted during the press briefing.

Ms. Donkor emphasised that following months of intelligence-led operations, Salim Mohammed was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman, where he had gone to seek medical attention.

She further revealed that “the suspect and his accomplices, armed with AK-47 assault rifles, intercepted the victims’ vehicle, fired multiple shots to disperse onlookers, and injured the driver before fleeing with the cash.”

COP Donkor assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects involved in the robbery and to recover the stolen money.
