Founder of the YOUINSPIRE foundation, Gladys Osei Owiredu, has dedicated herself to organizing free cervical cancer screening for women, inspired by her mother’s death from cervical cancer.

During the screening at Methodist Church, Trinity Society, Madina Estates, she emphasised that she does not want any woman to pass through the same situation as her mother did.

“My mother suffered immensely before passing away, and the pain I experienced watching her battle cervical cancer was unbearable.

“This experience has inspired me to take action, and I am committed to supporting women who are going through similar struggles, and I refuse to stand idly by and watch any woman endure such pain,” she stated.

She vowed that every year, she will organize screenings to help women who lack knowledge about cervical cancer or can not afford testing due to financial instability.

“I made up my mind that if God blesses me with strength and success, I’ll organize a free annual cervical cancer screening for women, especially those who lack knowledge about the disease and are financially unstable to undergo the screening process.

“By God’s grace, it’s been four years since I started the free cervical cancer screening, and I’ve been able to help many women.

“When results turn out positive, we find a solution to prevent the situation from worsening,” she affirmed.

During the event, the team discovered a woman with complications on the tip of her womb, underscoring the importance of early detection.

Madam Gladys reiterated that it is necessary for every woman to take cervical cancer screening very seriously.

Senior Nurse at Madina Polyclinic – Kekele and a certified cervical cancer advocate, Blaise Ackom also revealed that approximately 3,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, and sadly, over 1,500 women die from the disease.

He urged all women who have been sexually active to get screened, assuring that cervical cancer is 100% preventable and that no woman should suffer from it.
