The President of the Concerned Farmers Association, Nana Oboadie Bonsu, has urged the government to stop the importation of foreign rice and other food items into the country.

Speaking to Ohemaa Sekyiwaa on “Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ” on Friday, January 30, 2026, he stated that foodstuffs produced by Ghanaian farmers are not being purchased because of the influx of imported goods, which is affecting the farmers.

“Rice imported from other countries is often labelled with local names which gives the impression that the rice is produced from Ghana,” Nana Oboadie expressed.

He emphasized his call and suggested that the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) verify the origin of every rice so that those produced in the country are clearly indicated on the packaging.

This way, he added, farmers will feel assured that consumers will patronize locally produced food items, particularly rice.

Nana Oboadie added that if people continue to choose imported products over locally produced foods, farmers will struggle to generate income.

According to him, such developments will lead to a decline in production, and farmers may be criticized for not doing enough.
