Former President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has expressed his full backing for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He stated that he is confident Bawumia will lead the party to victory in the upcoming elections.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, Akufo-Addo revealed that he had chosen Bawumia as his running mate 18 years ago, and had worked closely with him through four elections.

“I know his mind, his character, his love for Ghana, and his appetite for hard work,” he said.

Akufo-Addo praised Bawumia’s loyalty to the party and country and expressed his confidence that with the support of the party’s rank and file, Bawumia will emerge victorious.

“With the full support of our rank and file and the continued generosity of our supporters, I know that he will lead us back to victory,” he affirmed.

The former president’s endorsement comes after Bawumia’s recent victory in the NPP presidential primary, in which he emerged as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming elections.
