The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has declared its readiness for unity and reconciliation as Ghana marks 60 years since the 1966 coup that overthrew the country’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The party has designated February 24, 2026, as a “Day of Unity and Reconciliation.”

In a statement issued on Thursday, February 5, the CPP noted that the anniversary provides an opportunity for reflection on the destabilizing events of six decades ago and their lasting impact on Ghana’s political history.

The CPP expressed gratitude to the media for their continued support, publicity, and coverage of the party’s activities in 2026, emphasizing the important role of the press in shaping national discourse.

As part of activities marking the anniversary, the party announced plans to engage the public with ideas aimed at promoting national unity, reconciliation, and development, values inspired by the ideals and achievements of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The statement further called on media houses to open their platforms to members of the CPP Communications Directorate, the party’s national leadership, CPP members, and Nkrumaists to share perspectives and contribute to discussions on Ghana’s future.

According to the party, these engagements will focus on advancing fresh, modern, and “relevant ideas inspired by the ideals and successes of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
