President John Dramani Mahama has underscored the critical role of African leaders in driving the continent’s progress, stressing that Africa deserves transparent, accountable, and people-centered leadership to ensure democratic growth.
Addressing Zambia’s National Assembly on Thursday, February 5, 2026, President Mahama emphasized that anti-corruption institutions and legal frameworks must be empowered to function independently, without fear or political interference.
“The institution and laws to fight corruption must be allowed to operate without fear or favor, and abuse of public trust must be punished,” his excellency said.
President Mahama noted that both the parliament and the judiciary must operate independently in the public interest, stressing that leaders must uphold and respect the Constitution.
He also pointed out that fostering regional growth through joint reforms, integrated infrastructure, and aligned policies on trade and climate finance.
He noted that “Africa must be united in our strategy, just not as a slogan.”
