Renowned Ghanaian actor, producer, and director Fiifi Coleman has officially launched the stage adaptation of the classic Ghanaian story I Told You So, bringing one of Ghana’s most beloved narratives to the theatre with a modern touch.

The press launch, held on Friday, February 2026, at the Fiifi Coleman Productions office, brought together cast members, creative partners, and media personnel for a preview of the production

Speaking at the event, Coleman described the play as a fresh reinterpretation of a beloved classic, honouring its cultural roots while delivering a dynamic theatrical experience.

“We’ve taken the heart of this classic tale and translated it into a stage experience that is both entertaining and deeply resonant for today’s audience,” Coleman said.

Story and Plot

I Told You So tells the story of Kobina Jones, who returns home to Ghana after years abroad in search of love and family. Upon his return, he faces unexpected truths that test his dreams and relationships. The narrative explores themes of love, tradition, expectation, and consequence, delivered with the wit and insight that made the original film a cultural classic.

History and Background

I Told You So originated as a film in 1970, directed by the legendary filmmaker Egbert Adjesu. The film became a cultural landmark in Ghana, celebrated for its satirical portrayal of society, witty dialogues, and commentary on the tension between tradition and modernity.

The story follows Kobina Jones’ attempts to navigate family expectations, marriage, and social norms, exposing both the folly and wisdom of human behavior. Loved for its blend of comedy and social commentary, I Told You So has influenced Ghanaian theatre, television, and modern adaptations.

Fiifi Coleman’s stage adaptation revives this timeless tale for contemporary audiences, retaining its cultural essence while incorporating dynamic performances, updated dialogue, and modern production design.

Cast of I Told You So

The production showcases an impressive lineup of notable Ghanaian talents, including Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Fred Amugi, Clemento Suarez, Mr. Beautiful, Ken Fiati, Wofa Kay, and content creator Deaconess Abokomah, along with several emerging actors making their stage debut.

Also in attendance at the media launch was veteran Ghanaian filmmaker Kwaw Ansah, who served as a set designer on Egbert Adjesu’s original production and is also highly respected as an actor.

During the press engagement, Fiifi Coleman announced a partnership with the National Theatre, led by Executive Secretary Henry Herbert Malm, highlighting their shared commitment to promoting theatre and preserving Ghana’s storytelling heritage.

Performance Details

The play is set to run at the National Theatre, Accra, from Thursday, March 5, to Sunday, March 8, 2026. Tickets are available through official channels, and audiences are encouraged to book early due to high demand.
