The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 53 -year-old man, named Seth Welbeck, for allegedly threatening the life of a police investigator and unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition.

The arrest took place on Monday, February 3, 2026, following court proceedings related to an earlier false documentation case in which the suspect had been issued a criminal summons to appear before the Accra Circuit Court.

According to the statement released by the police, after the court session, the suspect requested permission from the investigator escorting him to lock his vehicle. During the process, Mr Welbeck reportedly retrieved a Smith and Wesson SD9 VE pistol, loaded with nine rounds of 9mm ammunition, from his vehicle.

The suspect allegedly pointed the firearm at the investigator and threatened him. With the swift intervention of other court officials and members of the public present, the investigator was able to disarm the suspect without any injuries recorded.

Mr Welbeck is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court to face charges relating to threat of death and possession of a firearm and ammunition without lawful authority.
