Cocoa farmers in Akyem Akooko in the Eastern Region have expressed disappointment over three months of delayed government payments for cocoa beans.

At a protest on Sunday, February 8, 2026, the farmers expressed their discontent and accused the President John Dramani Mahama-led administration of misleading them.

“Now we are growing more cocoa, but you haven’t paid us, doesn’t he have a wife and children to feed? Why is he allowing cocoa farmers to wallow in poverty?” they expressed their concerns.

“He should be careful with what he is doing; he should be careful so that we won’t curse him,” a farmer said.

They further praised former President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, comparing his actions to those of the sitting President.

“When Nana Addo was President, he pruned our farms and provided us with medicines. Now there’s no mass spraying anymore, and we are in debt,” they revealed.

The cocoa farmers urged the government to provide them with their payments, as they are currently suffering.
