Black Stars technical advisor, Winfred Schaefer, has identified the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, as the best player in the Ghana Premier League(GPL).

He argued that the skipper of Accra Hearts of Oak currently surpasses all players plying their trade in Ghana’s top-flight football in terms of performance.

Mr. Schaefer explained that his observation stemmed from visits to league centers during the ongoing 2025/26 season.

“Over the past two months. I have been visiting league venues and speaking with coaches and players. The best player I have seen is Benjamin Asare, and he is the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper,” he declared.

He acknowledged the instrumental contributions of home-based players to the country’s footballing success.

“The heart of football in Ghana is in the local league, not only with players in Europe,” he told Tarkwa-based Medeama FM.

He encouraged other players in the GPL to work hard like Mr. Asare to position themselves for call-ups into the various national teams.
