Ghana Immigration Service begins anti-trafficking operation to curb street begging

The Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has lifted the curfew on Nalerigu township and it’s environs in the North East Region with immediate effect.

In a statement signed by the Minister,on Monday, February 16, 2026, it noted that, the curfew was lifted on the advice of the North East regional security council and by the executive instrument following peace and security in the area.

“The interior Minister on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has lifted the Curfew in Nalerigu Township and its environs in the North East Region with immediate effect, following peace and security in the area,” the statement disclosed.

He further admonished the chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint when faced with challenges to ensure peace and harmony in the area.

“Government continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” he advised.
