Leader of the Union Government (UG), Akwasi Addai Odike, has suggested that President John Dramani Mahama convene a dialogue meeting to address pressing issues in the cocoa sector.
Speaking on Anopa Bofo on Monday, February 16, 2026, Odike emphasized that the challenges facing the cocoa industry have surpassed the government’s capacity to manage them, necessitating a national consensus.
“As a serious country, this is the time to call for a national dialogue. Now the issue is beyond the government,” he said.
Odike stressed that the government should not hold meetings involving just one or two individuals who would later inform the public that the cabinet has met and made decisions.
He highlighted the importance of proactive measures to tackle the matter to relieve cocoa farmers, as the situation has created a scar in their hearts and minds.
The businessman proposed that “the government should establish Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in every district where cocoa is grown to facilitate local processing.”
