The Office of the National Chief Imam has announced that Ramadan fasting will begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026, following the successful sighting of the crescent moon on Wednesday evening.

Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Armiyaw Shaibu, speaking on behalf of His Eminence, confirmed the sighting in a nationwide address on Wednesday, February 18.

He explained that the declaration is in line with traditional moon-sighting practices.

According to him, as is customary, about seven regional representatives verified the sightings to the appropriate authorities, thereby declaring Thursday as the first day of Ramadan.

The process, he noted, forms part of efforts to ensure uniformity in the observance of Ramadan across the country.

“His Eminence Sheikh Prof. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam and Grand Mufti of the Republic of Ghana has just announced the sighting of the crescent of Ramadan 2026 at multiple places in Ghana.

“Ghanaian Muslims begin fasting tomorrow Thursday 19th Feb. 2026 insha Allah,” he announced.
