Ghanaian highlife musician Mzbel has expressed disappointment over what she describes as years of neglect by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite her longstanding loyalty to the party.
Speaking in an interview on Saturday, February 21, 2026, the singer said she was “born into the NDC” during the era of former President Jerry John Rawlings and has consistently supported the party without recognition.
“I was born into the NDC during the Rawlings era, and I love the party and what it stands for, however, I haven’t received anything from them,” she said.
She added that her efforts to be part of party activities have often been unsuccessful.
“When they organize events, I’m not invited, and instead, they choose to pay people who are not even affiliated with the NDC,” she added.
MzBel revealed that she personally financed aspects of the party’s recent campaign, including transportation for supporters, printing T-shirts and providing food, all without financial assistance.
Though she identifies as an NDC member, she acknowledged receiving support from individuals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I’m not an NPP member, but they’ve helped me a lot, when I lost my mom, Napo gave me money, and another man from also showed kindness, it got to a time that needed job, I got some at Wontumi tv.
“Because I was an NDC member when it was time for campaigning I left the job and went back to join NDC to campaign, even though I got help from NPP members,” she pointed out.
She also spoke about the impact of her political affiliation on her music career, citing events in 2016 when she criticised former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“In 2016, my career was affected when organizers withdrew me from shows due to my criticisms of President Akufo-Addo,” she explained.
MzBel, who had hoped to perform at NDC events, said she now plans to step back from active political campaigning.
“This will be the last time I engage in party activities because I’m not a kid anymore,” she concluded.
