Ghanaian Afrobeat singer,  Kelvyn Brown, known as Kelvynboy, has urged Ghanaians to stop criticizing his personal choices, saying he smokes as a coping mechanism and a matter of personal life.

Speaking on Okay FM, he added that the pressures of life contribute to his decisions, and that if others faced similar circumstances, they might smoke as well.

“When I smoke the other one, problem, when I smoke cigarettes too … But what we go through, if you go through that same thing you would also smoke. When the pressure hits you, you will smoke to reduce stress and excess thinking,” he highlighted.

Kelvynboy argued for personal freedom, insisting, “Leave me to live my life, since no one has heard that I have done something wrong. It’s not easy, so leave us and let us rest a little.”

Kelvynboy also commented on perceived double standards regarding Nigerians, suggesting that Nigerians do whatever they want even smoke in their music videos.

“Because we were here when Nigerians come to do whatever they want, this same people listen to their music, they do it in their videos every day,” he said.

He expressed frustration with public tagging and finger-pointing stating that he cannot face life sober.

The artist concluded with a reflection on fame and scrutiny, saying, “People do it in their hideouts but we do it for people to see. I feel like if you are not a famous person, people won’t talk about you.”
