The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested eight suspects for allegedly luring and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public through fraudulent gambling activities and the theft of personal belongings.

According to a police statement, the arrests were successfully executed following an intelligence-led operation on Monday, March 2, 2026. Reports indicated that a youth group assembled at Adehyeman was engaging in illegal gambling activities.

The police service stated that the suspects reportedly deceived their victims into participating in the game and, in the process, stole their money and other personal effects.

A team of officers from the Rapid Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) was dispatched to the scene, leading to the apprehension of those involved in the illegal activity.

The suspects have been identified as follows: Akwasi Atakari, 36 years; Mandela Peprah, 31 years; Ernest Oduro, 28 years; Joseph Odoom, 31 years; Augustine Agyemang, 24 years; Eric Addo, 33 years; Dorcas Atanga, 22 years; and Agnes Baser, 21 years.

The police revealed that a total sum of fifteen thousand two hundred and sixty Ghana Cedis (GHS 15,260.00), suspected to be proceeds of crime, was retrieved from the suspects.

They have been cautioned during the investigations. The police further confirmed that the cash exhibit has been retained at the station for evidential purposes, adding that the suspects are expected to be arraigned before the court on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
