President John Dramani Mahama, has announced that the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank is in its final stages.

Speaking at the 69th Independence Day Anniversary at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 6, 2026, he emphasised that the initiative has been spearheaded by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

President Mahama highlighted the pivotal role of women entrepreneurs in Ghana’s informal economy, pointing out the numerous barriers they face in accessing affordable credit for their businesses.

“This work has been under the leadership of our hardworking Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang; our women entrepreneurs have historically been the backbone of Ghana’s informal economy,” he stated.

The President assured that the new bank will provide accessible financing, mentorship, and tailored business support specifically for women-led enterprises, aiming to enhance women’s engagement in business.

He expressed his belief that women in Ghana are dedicated to investing in their futures and will be empowered to realise their full potential.

“When women succeed, families thrive and nations prosper. The women of Ghana are committed to investing so that they will realise their full potential,” he affirmed.
