The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally lodged a protest with United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres.

The protest follows an attack on Ghanaian soldiers serving with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon on March 6, 2026.

The assault left two Ghanaian peacekeepers seriously injured.

In a protest letter dated March 6, 2026, the Ghanaian government called for a “full, immediate, impartial and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack,” describing it as a “grave violation of international law and an affront to the protections afforded to UN peacekeeping personnel, which amount to war crimes.”

The government strongly condemned the attack and demanded that those responsible be identified and held accountable.

It also urged the United Nations to take necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of all Ghanaian contingent members serving with UNIFIL, as well as all personnel under the Mission who risk their lives in service to humanity.

The Ministry further affirmed Ghana’s unwavering commitment to UN peacekeeping operations and emphasized that the protection of peacekeeping personnel must remain paramount in efforts to maintain international peace and security.
