Africans must unite amid global crisis – Mahama Ayaba

Corporate Communications Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Godwin Mahama Ayaba, has stated that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran should serve as a valuable lesson for Africa.

He emphasized that this is a crucial moment for the continent to reflect on these issues, especially in light of the previous pandemic posed by COVID-19 and the pending Israel-Iran war.

Speaking on Anopa Bofo, Monday, March 9, 2026, he urged African countries to strengthen their existing collaborations to provide support for each other in difficult times.

“If we strengthen the existing collaboration, the bilateral agreement that we have, as African countries we should be able to help each other at this time,” he said, citing that Dangote produces 650,000 barrels of oil daily.

Mr. Ayaba pointed out that if the Strait of Hormuz were to be closed, it would disrupt fuel supplies to Africa, stressing the importance of unity among Africans in all aspects of economic collaboration.

“With this geopolitics, it should teach Africa to be one, in all spheres of our economic dealings, because when the Strait of Hormuz (The only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean) is closed today, it means that chunk of the fuel will not be coming to Africa.

“Yet we have countries like Ghana, Ivory Coast, and even Nigeria, which produce oil in commercial quantities,” he said.
