TVET is key to financial freedom and youth development – Franklin Kobla

Special Assistant to the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Mr. Franklin Nii Asan Kobla, has stated that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is the key to financial freedom and development.

Speaking during the 11th graduation and matriculation ceremony of Topman Multimedia Institute on Sunday March 9, 2026, he stressed that TVET is the path to development and economic freedom.

“TVET is the way to development and economic freedom. I advise the youth to prioritize it,” he pointed out.

Mr. Kobla emphasized that while young people in other countries focus on vocational skills, Ghanaian youth have different preferences, which isn’t the foundation of development.

“In foreign countries, TVET is the centerpiece of development. All the youth want to learn media or vocational skills, but in Ghana, everyone wants to learn humanities, law, history, and many others. That’s not the root of development,” he mentioned.

Mr. Kobla noted that, TVET will aid individuals to set up their own businesses without waiting for government employment opportunities.

“With TVET, you can start your own business. You wouldn’t wait for the government to employ you. Once you learn a skill, you can start something of your own,” he added.
