Mr. Acquah was a Deputy Health minister under Akufo-Addo's administration

The Member of Parliament for Oda and member of the Health Committee, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has stated that the government’s release of the Auditor-General’s report is a deliberate attempt to overshadow the complaints of Ghanaians about hardships.

He expressed that the recent public outcry concerning a hike in electricity bills and the reduction in cocoa prices have left the government feeling uneasy, hence, the calculated attempt to distract from these pressing issues.

“But do you know the reason why the government is bringing this audit on board? Today, all these issues that Ghanaians are talking about have taken the government by surprise. When they attempted to address the electricity concerns but were at a loss for solutions, they decided to focus on this issue, suggesting that certain individuals have embezzled funds, something that resonates deeply with Ghanaians,” he asserted.

He further argued that the Auditor-General’s report is not an extraordinary occurrence; rather, it is a routine action seen in every successive government.

Mr. Acquah, who was speaking on Angel TV on Thursday, March 12, 2026, added that this report should not distract Ghanaians from the government’s failures in addressing the prevailing issues in the country.

He highlighted several additional grievances impacting Ghanaians, including the challenges faced by rice producers, the ongoing strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), and the plight of teachers who have gone 14 months without pay.

He pointed out that these complaints, along with those from the grassroots of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) concerning job opportunities and security service recruitment, add to the government’s burdens, contributing to their discomfort.
